Mumbai Police declared a blogger a threat, a person likely to cause imminent breach of peace and public tranquility and initiated a Chapter case under section 107 of Crimnal Procedure Code, 1973. The innocent blogger knocked the doors of Maharashtra human Rights Commission. After one and half years, Mumbai Police in a written submission to Human Rights Commission accepted their fault and initiation of the false proceedings against the innocent. The shameless senior officers gave no relief and did not punish the guilty policeman for conspiring to ruin the life and reputation of the innocent.

I agree Rudolf, bloggers are writers and they must suffer as writers. One more thing, bloggers must be held liable for what they write. So far they had been enjoying relative freedom.

Ramesh, being bloggers and writers ourselves, we all agree with you that ”no one should suffer for expressing his or her views.” But that is just the ideal. In reality, people suffer and will continue to suffer even in the United States where the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression.

Freedom of expression or no, Jhonty is right when he says bloggers have been enjoying relative freedom till now. Since bloggers are becoming de facto journalists, they may as well cough up to some editorial control.
